If your organisation uses Microsoft 365 for email, Teams, Word, Excel, or any part of your day-to-day work, there is a change coming on May 1 that is worth knowing about.
Microsoft has announced a new licence tier called Microsoft 365 E7, also known as the Frontier Suite, launching May 1, 2026. It bundles Microsoft Copilot and a new AI governance tool into the same plan as your existing Microsoft 365 licence, meaning AI assistance across your whole Microsoft environment becomes part of your standard setup rather than a separate purchase.
The new tier brings together four things in one plan:
Microsoft 365 E5 — the productivity, compliance and security tools your teams already use
Microsoft 365 Copilot — AI assistance built into Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and other M365 applications.
Microsoft Entra Suite — identity and access management to keep your environment secure
Agent 365 — a new tool that lets your organisation manage and govern AI agents centrally, so you stay in control of how AI is being used across the business
Copilot is Microsoft's AI assistant built directly into the tools your team already works in. It can draft emails, summarise meetings, pull together reports and answer questions about your own business data, without leaving Teams or Outlook.
“Copilot empowers professionals to work smarter by augmenting human expertise, not replacing it, helping automate rountine tasks, surfacing insights faster, and streamline collaboration, while people remain at the centre, driving decisions with their experience, creativity, and critical thinking.”

Until now, Copilot had to be purchased as a separate add-on. From May 1, it is included as part of the E7 plan. For organisations that have been considering Microsoft Copilot but haven't yet made the move, this changes the conversation.
If your organisation is on an existing Microsoft 365 plan, May 1 is a good moment to review your licence and ask whether upgrading makes sense. The E7 tier may consolidate tools you are already buying separately, or open up capabilities, like Microsoft Copilot, that your teams have been waiting on.
The right answer will depend on your current setup, the size of your team and where you want to go with AI over the next 12 months.
Spanish Point Technologies helps organisations across Ireland get more from their Microsoft 365 investment, from initial set up and licensing decisions through to Microsoft Copilot adoption and training. If you want to understand what the May 1 changes mean for your organisation, our team can walk you through your options in plain terms.
